National Privacy Commission and GCash Collaborate to Enhance Data Privacy Awareness for Filipinos

TAGUIG CITY - The National Privacy Commission (NPC) signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with GCash, a mobile wallet and digital payments platform, allowing GCash to integrate the Commission’s educational materials in its application (app) to promote awareness of and compliance with the Data Privacy Act of 2012 (DPA). The MOA was signed on 13 March 2025, with Privacy Commissioner Atty. John Henry D. Naga representing the NPC, and GCash President and CEO, Mr. Oscar Enrico A. Reyes Jr., representing GCash.

Under the agreement, GCash will be allowed to integrate NPC’s data privacy educational materials, including training modules, videos, and other relevant content, in the GCash app’s Privacy Choices feature. Additionally, the NPC’s Registration Portal will be provided on the GCash platform to promote compliance with DPA of personal information controllers (PICs) and personal information processors (PIPs).

“Our daily lives are becoming increasingly digital, from online shopping to digital banking. With that comes an urgent need to protect our personal data,” said Privacy Commissioner Naga. “By making data privacy education easily accessible through platforms that millions of Filipinos already use, like GCash, we are empowering individuals to take control of their privacy and make informed decisions about their personal data.”

“This MOA with NPC underscores our commitment to upholding the highest standards of data privacy and security, strengthening the trust and confidence of our users,” Mr. Reyes added.

Through this MOA, GCash users will have access to a range of educational content developed and designed by the NPC to deepen their understanding of data privacy rights and responsibilities. This is a part of the NPC’s ongoing efforts to raise data privacy awareness and support compliance with the DPA through public-private collaborations.
