NPC strengthens efforts to protect children against online sexual abuse and exploitation
The National Privacy Commission (NPC) is intensifying its efforts to protect children from online sexual abuse and exploitation. The Commission has issued guidelines for organizations that process children’s personal data, alongside expanding the Kabataang Digital Advocacy Campaign, which aims to educate children about safeguarding their data privacy.
On 17 December 2024, the NPC issued Advisory No. 2024-03 or the Guidelines on Child-Oriented Transparency. This issuance establishes a framework for the processing of personal data of children mandating personal information controllers (PICs) and personal information processors (PIPs) to ensure that children receive extra protection.
Furthermore, the NPC actively conducts its advocacy campaign, the Kabataang Digital Regional Caravan, visiting schools across various regions to educate the youth about the Data Privacy Act of 2012 (DPA) and empower them with essential digital literacy skills.
As a member of the National Coordination Center Against Online Sexual Abuse and Exploitation of Children and Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation Material (NCC-OSAEC-CSAEM), the Commission is one with various government agencies and stakeholders in ensuring that children are provided with a useful, meaningful, and safe digital environment.
The NPC remains resolute in its mission to protect the privacy rights of all individuals. The Commission will continue exploring innovative solutions and fostering collaboration for every child’s fundamental right to privacy and protection.
