NPC’s Privacy Webcast bags Outstanding Digital Campaign Award

PASAY CITY - The National Privacy Commission’s (NPC) flagship initiative, Privacy in the Spotlight (PITS) Webcast, was awarded Outstanding Digital Campaign Award in Best Long-Form Campaign Category at the inaugural annual awards program “Parangal: Gawad ng Kahusayan sa Komunikasyong Pampubliko.” The awarding program was held by the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) on 16 December 2024 at the Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay City.

The PITS Webcast serves as a dynamic platform where data privacy experts and professionals engage in discussions on a wide array of topics related to data privacy and protection. Leveraging social media platforms such as Facebook and YouTube, the webcast raises awareness and educates businesses, organizations, and the general public—particularly data subjects—about the importance of privacy, safety, security, and trust in the digital landscape. Since its launch, the PITS Webcast has garnered over 600,000 views on NPC’s Facebook page and YouTube channel.

The awarding ceremony was graced by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., who highlighted the significance of digital campaigns in governance. “The Outstanding Digital Campaign Award demonstrates that governance must adapt to the digital realm and lead it. These campaigns transformed screens into platforms of empowerment, amplifying voices, engaging communities, and reminding us that technology is not a threat to governance but its greatest ally when wielded with purpose,” the President said in his congratulatory message.

Privacy Commissioner Atty. John Henry D. Naga received the award on behalf of the NPC. In his acceptance speech, Privacy Commissioner Naga emphasized the NPC’s dedication to advancing data privacy and security. “This recognition is a testament to the NPC’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding the personal data of every Filipino while fostering public awareness on data privacy and security,” he said.

He further remarked, “Winning this award inspires us to continue innovating and delivering impactful communication campaigns that empower individuals, organizations, and communities to uphold data privacy rights. Achieving this recognition with a program that has a budget of less than ₱20,000 demonstrates the power of resourcefulness and dedication in creating meaningful impact.”

In addition to the PITS Webcast’s recognition, the NPC was NPC was included as finalist in four other categories: Government Innovation Award, Website of the Year, Best Infographic Campaign, and Digital Campaign of the Year.

“Parangal: Gawad ng Kahusayan sa Komunikasyong Pampubliko” is the PCO’s flagship annual awarding ceremony dedicated to recognizing outstanding communication campaigns and strategies by government agencies and local government units. The event celebrates excellence in public communication that enhances public understanding of government programs, promotes transparency, fosters accountability, and builds trust between the government and its citizens.
