Privacy Commissioner Naga commends Health and Hospital Sector for promoting Data Privacy Compliance

In pursuit of bolstering data protection in the healthcare industry, the National Privacy Commission (NPC) participated in the two-day seminar conducted by the Data Privacy Council (DPC) Health and Hospital Sector (HHS) from 25-26 July 2024, at Tagaytay City, Cavite.

The seminar entitled “Fostering Privacy Protocols: The DPO’s Guide to Excellence in Information Management and Assessment,” aimed at enhancing the skills and knowledge of Data Protection Officers (DPOs) in the HHS regarding Privacy Impact Assessment (PIA) and Data Breach Management, as required by the Data Privacy Act of 2012 (DPA) and NPC issuances.

Privacy Commissioner Atty. John Henry D. Naga graced the seminar as a guest speaker, encouraging data privacy stakeholders in the HHS to continue their commitment to safeguarding personal data of their clients. “The personal data that you process is considered delicate as it does not only involve personal information, but also sensitive personal information. Thus, it must be protected with utmost care. The personal data you protect represents the trust and well-being of individuals who depend on your vigilance and dedication," said Privacy Commissioner Naga. "I commend your commitment in promoting data privacy compliance and your proactive efforts in safeguarding the personal data of those you serve". He added.

Ms. Gelalyn V. Boquiren, DPC President and DPO of San Miguel Corporation, introduced the DPC as the official organization formed by the NPC in August 2019 to serve as a consultative body, functioning as a mechanism for collaboration and a channel for knowledge-sharing between and among the sectoral stakeholders. Members of the DPC benefit from preferential access to resources, conferences, and events on the latest NPC updates, active participation in proposing and reviewing NPC circulars and advisories, and networking opportunities to learn best practices in data privacy and protection.

The HHS officers include Mr. Rossel Roldan as its representative, Mr. Jeffrey Reyes as its vice representative, and Ms. Marilyn Allanigue as its secretary.
